Recent developments in air and rail networks are improving the Laos travel experience, encouraging longer stays, richer experiences, and a more holistic understanding of the multifaceted beauty that is Laos.
High Speed Train: Easier access to remote areas
The journey from Vientiane to Luang Prabang takes around 2.5 hours by train, a drastic improvement over the previous 6-7 hour drive.
Alexander Stephan, EXO Marketing Director, recently travelled on the high speed train with his family.
“Passing through so much stunning scenery in the comfort of a smooth, air conditioned train– we were almost disappointed to have arrived in Oudamxay from Luang Prabang so quickly!”
EXO has long been a champion of the remote Oudomxay region, developing off-the-beaten track treks, sustainable village visits and other nature-focused activities in the area. We are thrilled by this reduction in travel time and look forward to having more opportunities to showcase this previously hidden corner of Laos.
Regional Flights: Increased Availability and Options
In addition to the improved intra-Laos travel, getting into the landlocked country is now easier than ever before. After a long pandemic-related pause, Vietnam Airlines resumed regular regional flights to Luang Prabang.
Andrea Vinsonneau, EXO Laos General Manager, is excited about these new routes.
‘Luang Prabang is the perfect addition to a greater Southeast Asia itinerary. With these direct flights and Laos’ visa-on-arrival, it’s easier than ever to enjoy a multi-country holiday.’
She added, ‘For an extra smooth arrival, I recommend EXO’s VIP Visa-On-Arrival service. It’s affordable and convenient, saving guests a lot of time at the airport and giving them that special VIP feeling!
Besides the aforementioned Vietnam Airlines routes, other regional airlines are increasing flight capacity to Luang Prabang and Vientiane. Bangkok Airways and Thai Air Asia have added additional departures, furthering accessibility for those coming from Thailand or connecting through Bangkok’s major airport hub.
As tourism numbers continue to rise in Southeast Asia, EXO Travel expects these rail and air improvements to usher in a new era of travel in Laos.
